"ADAPTTA : adaptation of an introduction to programming course to new technologies and learning theories".

PURPOSE (PROJECT PHASE I)

REVIEW and EVALUATION of the 2007-08 adaptation of the programming methodology subject to the EHEA.
DEVELOPMENT of the PBL competences learning model.
AUTOMATION of the collaborative learning models based on learning objects and the implementation of flexible learning platforms.
INNOVATION (PROJECT PHASE II)

DISSEMINATION of the experience to other informatics engineering degree subjects within the programming area.
REVIEW, EVALUATION AND EXTENSION of the  EHEA-PBOC (EEES-Programming Body of Competences)  based on OCAs and learning roadmaps defined in research papers by the authors of the proposal and developed throughout the 2007-08 academic year.
PROMOTE AND DEFINE both national and international inter-institutional partnerships with degree programmes including similar subjects.
AUTOMATION of the collaborative and adaptive learning models.

The self-assessment and adaptive learning tools described here are for application if fresher students have deficiencies in specific mathematical competences.

- Design and development of a suite that helps students to gain a good understanding of what they learned in upper secondary education and to make the transition to technical higher education

- Development of web-based material for learning LaTex, a  tool widely used in the scientific/technical field. Using this text editor, students will be able to submit mathematical exercises and practical assignments over the Internet which will be field in electronic portfolios, improving student coursework follow-up.

-  Development of teaching material with the possibility of publishing in OCW.

GIE,s (B) The aim of the PDM-eLearning project (e-learning of Program Development Models ) is to design, develop, virtualize, teach and assess the e-learning outcomes of the compulsory 3rd-year subject, program development models. This e-learning course will be taught complementarily to the regular face-to-face course. The aim is for students to be able to complete, add to and build on learnig of this subject anywhere and anytime, i.e. outside the classroom whenever and for as long as they want.

The Montegancedo Astronomical Observatory www.ciclope.info/astro is a robotic telescope operating automatically or remotely over the Internet. The Ciclope Collaborative Learning Research Group (www.ciclope.info) uses this infrastructure. One of its aims is for the Internet community to use the observatory free of charge.

This project aims to use this infrastructure for practical assignments for three subjects taught at three UPM schools. Astronomy, at the ETSI de Topografía, Computer Vision, at the ETSI de Industriales and Web Applications Design at the Facultad de Informática.

The aim is to motivate students to apply theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom, in a science, astronomy, that attracts near universal interest.

Line 1. Access and admission of fresher higher education students
- Design and implementation of compensatory schemes in the event of possible deficiencies
Line 2. Interdisciplinary projects in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees
- Preparation of common materials in subjects that are taught at different institutions and/or different degree programmes
- Other lines: Interaction of complementary subjects from different instittions, Facultad de Informática, ETSI Industriales and ETSI Topografía, for practical assignments

The aim of this project is to continue the EHEA adaptation experiences that have been undertaken in previous years at the Facultad de Informática and start and integrate new ones initiatives, assuring their consistency with the ongoing work on developing the new undergraduate informatics engineering degree programme that is to be completed by November 2008.

Apart from providing resources to help faculty assess, basically general, competences, further investigate general competences or foresee subject coordination mechanisms, we aim to addresss a training plan to help faculty to start to use these resoures, as well as to conduct studies to ascertain the state and evolution of students based on particular competences or the impact on students of the introduced teaching methods.

This project covers continuous improvement tasks on a set  of subjects in the field of "Computer Systems Management", where we have been introducing innovative teaching and assessment methods for years. With the design of the new informatics engineering degree programme and degrees map, this review is especially important for identifying whether it is worthwhile and, if so, adapting these subjects to the new competence-based degrees. Apart from the above, we will examine and apply a model built in conjunction with other projects, to develop "Project Management" competences.
